Building on its recent investments in MBL and RBC, MidEuropa – a leading private equity investor with deep roots in Central Europe – today announces that it has acquired a majority stake in Optika Anda, the leading optical retail chain in Croatia.

MidEuropa will invest alongside second-generation owner and board member of Optika Anda, who is reinvesting in the business. The transaction is subject to customary antitrust and regulatory approvals and is expected to close in the first half of 2026.

Founded in 1999, Optika Anda is the largest optical retailer in Croatia and one of the largest independent optical retail platforms in Southeast Europe. The company operates a nationwide network of 64 stores and offers a comprehensive range of prescription eyewear, sunglasses, contact lenses, and related accessories and services. Optika Anda is widely recognised for its strong customer service, modern retail concepts and trusted brand, and today employs more than 300 professionals across the country.

MidEuropa intends to support Optika Anda’s next phase of growth through continued expansion in Croatia, complemented by targeted international growth across Central and Southeast Europe. MidEuropa’s investment represents an important step towards further consolidation of the regional optical market and lays the foundation for sustained organic growth, supported by carefully selected add-on acquisitions over time.

Optika Anda’s experienced management team, supported by MidEuropa’s Operating Team, will drive operational excellence, further digitalisation and expansion into new markets.

Zvonimir Simic, CEO of Optika Anda, commented:

“With the continued support of our existing shareholder group and our new partner, MidEuropa, we are well positioned to accelerate Optika Anda’s growth and pursue a more ambitious development path. Together, we will build on our winning formula of outstanding customer service and strong operational execution, supported by international expertise and a shared long-term vision.”

Aleksandar Dragicevic, Principal at MidEuropa, who led the transaction, said:

“Optika Anda has built an exceptional brand and a modern retail platform that sets the standard for optical care in Croatia. We are delighted to partner with second-generation owner and the wider management team to further strengthen the business and accelerate its expansion across Croatia and the broader region.”

Alain Beyens, Operating Partner at MidEuropa, added:

“Demand for optical services continues to grow, driven by favourable demographic trends and increasing awareness of eye health. Our investment in Optika Anda builds on MidEuropa’s strong healthcare and retail experience, including our investment in Optegra, as well as our broader retail track record across the region.”

MidEuropa was advised by Ernst & Young (commercial, financial, tax and IT), Financewise (financial), Šavorić & Partneri and Čavrak (legal), Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft (financing legal) and Sustineri Partners (ESG).
