One of the fastest growing wireless operators in Central and Eastern Europe
MidEuropa acquired its interest in Oskar Mobil in December 1999, as the third GSM licence was auctioned to Telesystem International Wireless (TIW). The company launched its service in March 2000 and became one of the fastest growing wireless operators in Central and Eastern Europe, with low penetration levels growing rapidly and a strong and experienced management team driving the business to EBITDA positive in early 2002.
In 2004, MidEuropa exchanged its Oskar stake for shares in TIW and the investment was sold to Vodafone in June 2005.
